Apple Sued by Russian Man for Turning Him Ga

When you are a company as big as Apple, you can be sued for a number of things, some of which are downright outrageous and irrelevant. In Russia, an incident like this is playing out as the company has been sued by a man for turning him gay.
The Russian man in his lawsuit claims that an iPhone app turned him gay and has sued Apple for one million rubles ($15,000). The Russian man had ordered Bitcoin using an iPhone app but GayCoin cryptocurrency was delivered to him. It arrived with a note saying “Don’t judge until you try,” and that’s the root cause of the issue.
“I thought, in truth, how can I judge something without trying? I decided to try same-sex relationships,” the complainant wrote.
“Now I have a boyfriend and I do not know how to explain this to my parents … my life has been changed for the worse and will never become normal again,” he added. Also Read:Hack Gmail account
“Apple pushed me towards homosexuality through manipulation. The changes have caused me moral and mental harm.”Read:video call softwares
The Russian man’s lawyer Sapizhat Gusnieva claimed the issue was “serious” because his client has suffered a lot and was scared. He also said that Apple “has a responsibility for their programmes.”
The lawsuit against Apple was filed on September 20th and the complaint hearing will take place on October 17.

Our Take

The lawsuit will be thrown out of the court since the transaction occurred in a third-party app for which Apple cannot be held responsible. It is quite funny to see this man blame Apple for his life decisions and taking the company to the court for the same.

Apple Card Preview Website Goes Live, Explains how to Apply for Apple Card in Wallet App

Apple has made live a new webpage for Apple Card. Users visiting the website are greeted with a page that reads “You’re almost there.” The webpage also details out steps required to apply for an Apple Card. Thats not all, Apple has also published a video tutorial on how to apply for an Apple Card.

Interestingly you can apply for an Apple Card by heading over to Wallet App on your iPhone. Meanwhile, iPad users can do the same by using the Wallet & Apple Pay option nesting in the Settings app. Before you apply for Apple Card make sure you are a US citizen or lawful resident at least 18 years old. Ensure that your iPhone/iPad is updated to the latest version of iOS. Lastly, make sure that your iPhone supports Apple Pay.

Apparently, the email invites have been sent to a small group of iPhone users. However, it is still not clear on the criteria used to shortlist the users for early invites. Apple is expected to launch Apple Card for all iPhone users later this month. Apple will be offering a dedicated app for iPad users allowing them to sign up and manage Apple Card. Furthermore, Apple and Goldman Sachs will offer a financing plan on select purchases.

Thanks to the leak we already know how the Apple Card will look like. The titanium finished Apple Card looks sleek and imposing. Apple is expected to wrap up its testing phase and launch the Apple Card later this month. Last month, Apple sent Apple Card to thousands of retail employees for testing purpose.

The Apple Card is integrated digitally with the iPhone and will give higher cashback on Apple purchases. The card offers 3% cashback on Apple Purchases, 2% cashback on Apple Pay Transactions and 1% cash back on other purchases.

How to Customize AirPods’ Double Tap Gestures

AirPods are incredibly simple devices. You just put them in your ears and play the music. Because they are so small and so simple, there are no buttons on them. If you’re used to Bluetooth headphones with volume and playback buttons this can be a difficult thing to get used to. What AirPods does have is a double-tap gesture on the outside part of each AirPod. And here’s how you can change the AirPods double tap gesture to something other than calling up Siri.
Customize AirPods’ Double Tap Gesture

The new AirPods now come with Hey Siri functionality. Making the double-tap gesture kind-of redundant. And truth be told, you might not want to use Siri on your AirPods even in the first generation model. There’s a way you can use the double-tap gestures in a better way. Apple provides a couple of different options for alternative functionality:

Play/Pause

Next Track

Previous Track

Siri

Off

If you like to listen to a lot of music and podcasts on your AirPods, it’s best to change one AirPod gesture to Play/Pause and another to Next Track. This way you can quickly change the music to the next track. And in the podcast app, you can instantly skip 30 seconds simply by double-tapping the AirPods.

Here’s how you can remap the double tap gestures.

Step 1: Open the Settings app after connecting your AirPods to our iPhone or iPad.

Step 2: Go to Bluetooth section and locate your AirPods from the list. Then tap on the small “i” icon next to your AirPods name.

Step 3: Here you’ll find a section called Double Tap AirPod. With Left and Right options. Tap on the Left option to chose one of the available options. Go back and do the same for the Right AirPod. You can have the same action for both AirPods as well.

And that’s it, you’ve now changed the AirPods double-tap gestures.

Apple Considered Purchasing Intel's Smartphone Modem Chip Business

Apple had discussions with Intel about potentially acquiring parts of Intel's smartphone modem chip business, reports The Wall Street Journal. Apple was interested in Intel's technology to speed up its own efforts to build modem chips for smartphones.

Intel and Apple entered into discussions last summer and the talks continued for months, but ended right around the time Apple settled its legal dispute and reached a supply agreement with Qualcomm.

Sources at Intel that spoke to The Wall Street Journal said that Intel is exploring "strategic alternatives" for its smartphone modem chip business, and is still interested in a sale to Apple or another company.

In an interview yesterday, Intel CEO Bob Swan confirmed that Intel is considering alternatives "based on what's best" for Intel's IP and employees.

Selling the modem business would allow Intel to unload a costly operation that was losing about $1 billion annually, according to another person familiar with its performance. Any sale would likely include staff, a portfolio of patents and modem designs related to multiple generations of wireless technology, said Patrick Moorhead, principal at Moor Insights & Strategy, a technology firm.

Intel announced earlier this month that it was exiting the 5G smartphone business, just hours after Apple and Qualcomm announced a resolution to their legal troubles and a new supply deal.

Apple had been planning to use Intel's 5G chips in its 2020 iPhones, but rumors suggested Intel was having trouble meeting design deadlines and that the relationship between Apple and Intel was souring. Just yesterday, Swan also confirmed that Apple's deal with Qualcomm was the reason why Intel decided to stop making 5G chips.

Apple is now planning to use Qualcomm's 5G modem chips in its 2020 5G iPhones. Intel has said that it is going to continue to supply 4G LTE chips to meet already established orders, which means that Apple's 2019 iPhone lineup will likely continue to use Intel chips rather than Qualcomm chips. It is too late in the design cycle for Apple to swap chips for this year's upcoming devices.

watchOS 6 Wishlist: 20 Features We Want to See

Apple Watch Series 4 took the Apple Watch to a whole new level. With a design and a much bigger screen. But Apple hasn’t done much to make use of the bigger screen. The new watchOS update is the perfect chance for Apple to bring some of the app and features which might not have made sense with the old screen size. Here is our watchOS 6 wishlist.
watchOS 6 Wishlist
A Slew of New Watch Faces for Series 4 Apple Watch

Series 4 put a divide in the watch faces catalog. Old watch faces from Series 3 were updated but they never actually looked good on Series 4. The only great watch face for Series 4 is the Infograph watch face. We need a lot more new watch faces like that. It would be great to see 5-6 new watch faces that are designed for the new 44mm size from scratch.
Shortcuts App for Apple Watch

Before Shortcuts was purchased by Apple, it used to be called Workflow. And it used to have an Apple Watch app. It wasn’t great but it was a great way to trigger actions from the Apple Watch. You could even do things like logging weight from the Apple Watch.

Now that it’s going to be a year since we first saw Siri Shortcuts, it’s time for it to make it to the Apple Watch. And now that Apple owns the app, it can feature multiple widgets for quickly starting actions. It can be a great way to start playing music or podcasts.
A Much Better Siri Watch Face

Siri watch face right now is very limited. It should be more customizable and proactive. It would be great if Apple actually let us put a bigger widget at the top.
Control Center Redesign

The Control Center needs a new layout for the bigger screen. You can now fit three toggles in a row.
Now Playing Widget in Control Center

The Now Playing app in watchOS is very confusing. It only shows up when something is playing. Just like the iPhone, the Apple Watch should have a section from Now Playing widget. And because it now supports AirPlay 2, it can have multiple Now Playing widgets for playback on Apple Watch, iPhone and Apple TV. And it can go right in the Control Center.
Customizable Activity Goals

Apple should recognize the need to customize goals for Activity on the fly. You should be able to reduce Stand goal or increase Excercise goal to suit your needs. Apple can also add a whole new ring for steps as 10,000 step goals are quite popular.
Books App on Apple Watch

You can listen to music and podcasts on Apple Watch but not Audiobooks. A dedicated Books app would take care of this oversight.
A Real Calculator App

While you can ask Siri to do some math for you, a real calculator app would go a long way. And there are apps like PCalc that already provide this feature so it should not be too difficult for Apple to integrate it into the OS itself.
Calendar App Needs an Overhaul

The Calendar app hasn’t changed in the past couple of years. You can only view the current month and that’s it. Series 4 Apple Watch is powerful enough that you can use it to create events and browse through different months.
Folders in Apple Watch

Apple Watch apps are finally starting to be good enough. You might be using a couple of apps for music, workouts or health tracking. It would be good if you could organize your favorite apps in folders, even if it is to visually distinguish them from everything else.
Safari for Apple Watch

watchOS 5 brought the ability to open websites on Apple Watch. Apple should just go one step further and include the Safari app on the Apple Watch. They can keep it simple and only let users open one page at a time, something from the Favorites list on iPhone.
Automatically Change Watch Faces

If you have multiple watch faces for different times of the day or location (one for home, one for work), it would be great if Apple Watch automatically switched them based on the time of the day or the location.
Voice Memos app

Voice Memos app is now available on the iPad and Mac. Apple should complete the family and add it to the Apple Watch as well. It can be incredibly useful to quickly record notes.
Customizable Workouts App with New Metrics

Workouts app times are a bit too big. It can use smaller tiles in the list display more types of workouts on one screen. The workout tracking screen itself is too simplistic. Workouts++ app, for example, shows a graph of heart rate and instead of just a list, has a grid view for stats.
Sleep Tracking

This has been a long time coming. And some apps already do this quite well. Apple can use the same features for tracking the sleep and present the data in a much more understandable manner.
Notes app on Apple Watch

Google Keep made it to the Apple Watch before the Notes app. While it doesn’t make sense to use the Notes app to take written notes on the Apple Watch it can be a great way to view checklists, read notes and to record audio notes.
A Real Home App

Home app on the Apple Watch only lets users access the Favorites. Instead, it should show all scenes and accessories on the Apple Watch. With grid view icons, this can be done in a visual sensible way as well.
Grid Layout for the Dock

The Dock in watchOS 5 is way too simple. It takes a long time to actually scroll through and go to the app you were using 20 minutes ago. Instead, if there as a grid view, you could see four apps at the same time.
Find my iPhone

Cellular Apple Watch users can benefit greatly from a Find my iPhone app. Apple Watch actually makes it quite easy to forget your iPhone places. When this does happen, you can just use the Find my iPhone app to quickly locate your iPhone on a map. And you can also ping your iPhone to keep playing a sound no matter where it is. Right now, you can ping your iPhone as long as it’s connected to the Apple Watch.
Third Party Watch Faces

This is something we wish for every year so it seems like a perfect way to end the list. While it’s entirely possible that Apple will never allow third parties to design an entire watch face. But I think watchOS is finally mature enough that Apple can at least start the process of custom watch faces.

And Apple can do it in their own way. With a dedicated Face Store, where Apple can dictate some strict design guidelines. Similar to how Apple has rules for designing iPhone apps. This can be a good middle ground. Apple can make sure that Apple Watch users keep engaging and using the product and Apple Watch users finally get some customization that they so desperately want.

Apple Using Dominant App Store Position to Crack Down on Third-Party Screen Time Apps

Ever since Apple released Screen Time as a part of iOS 12, the company has been coming down heavily on third-party apps that offer similar functionality.

As data from Sensor Tower an The New York Times show, Apple has removed or restricted functionality of at least top 11 of the 17 apps on the App Store which offered functionality similar to Screen Time.

Apple asked selected developers to remove some features from their apps or just outright pulled their app from the App Store.

Apple will send developers an email out of the blue asking them to remove certain features from their app. While their mail will encourage developers to contact Apple for more details, developer experience has been the opposite with Apple hardly ever responding to them.

In some cases, Apple forced companies to remove features that allowed parents to control their children’s devices or that blocked children’s access to certain apps and adult content. In other cases, it simply pulled the apps from its App Store.

Apple’s move has had an adverse effect on the future of many companies. Apple pulled OurPact’s app from the App Store in February whose parental control app was among the top ranking ones. The company’s app generated 80 percent of its revenue from the App Store.

Apple has been using its dominant position in the App Store to pull apps which offer similar features to the ones it releases as a part of a new iOS release. This is not good from a competition viewpoint as many iOS apps offer more granular controls and features compared to Apple’s Screen Time implementation. For example, OurPact parental app allows parents to block certain apps during a certain time of the day. This feature is missing from Screen Time.

“We treat all apps the same, including those that compete with our own services,” said Tammy Levine, an Apple spokeswoman. “Our incentive is to have a vibrant app ecosystem that provides consumers access to as many quality apps as possible.” She said the timing of Apple’s moves were not related to its debut of similar tools.
Our Take

Despite Apple’s comments, it is clear that the company uses its dominant position in the App Store for its own advantage. Apart from developers of parental control apps, Spotify has also highlighted how Apple uses its position to favor Apple Music and make the life of its competitors difficult on the App Store.Sponsor ads:

How to Connect AirPods to Android

AirPods are an Apple-first device. The work best with Apple ecosystem. Thanks to the W1/H1 chip inside them, they automatically connect with your iPhone as soon as you put them in your ears and they also pause playback when you remove one AirPod. But underneath Apple’s secret sauce lies Bluetooth technology. This means you can use them as standard Bluetooth headphones on any Android device. Here’s how to connect AirPods to Android.
How to Connect AirPods to Android

While AirPods work well with Android, it’s important to note that not all functionality is available when using AirPods. The automatic ear detection doesn’t work. And by default, you can even see the AirPods battery life percentage on Andriod (although that is easily fixed using an app, more on that below).

But still, if you already have AirPods, you might as well use them with your Android phone or Android tablet.

Step 1: Open the AirPods case and then swipe down the Notification Drawer on Android.

Step 2: From here, tap and hold the Bluetooth toggle to open the Bluetooth section in the Settings app.

Step 3: If not already enabled, turn on the Bluetooth discovery setting.

Step 4: On your AirPods, with the case lid open, press and hold the Pairing button at the back of the case. You’ll see the light inside the case turn white.

Step 5: In a couple of seconds, your AirPods will show up in the list of devices. Tap on it, then confirm from the pop-up and that’s it, your AirPods are now paired with Android.
How to Check AirPods Battery on Android

As I said above, AirPods don’t report battery life on Android devices by default. But you can around it use the AirBattery app. It works for first-generation AirPods and other W1 devices like Beats X, Beats Solo and so on.

After installing the app, you just have to tap on the app icon while your AirPods are connected. You’ll see an overlay on the screen which will tell you the battery percentage of each AirPod. If you want to know the battery left in the case, you’ll need to put one AirPods back in the case.
